Several of Quebec’s key players in health innovation gathered in Montreal for Health Innovation Week, held October 19th to 23rd, 2015. This event allowed students, healthcare professionals, industry and patient representatives to exchange views concerning issues in healthcare innovation.

Dr. Yanick Beaulieu presented the Reacts platform and underlined the challenges faced by our healthcare system. He discussed the role of virtual medicine in helping to catalyze the transformation of healthcare towards a more patient-centred model. Some of our key collaborators then presented pilot projects undertaken using Reacts in various medical fields:

  • Marie-Josée Paquet – remote supervision in neurosurgery – Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM)
  • Brigitte Fillion – tele-rehabilitation – Centre de Réadaptation Lucie-Bruneau (CRLB) and l’Institut de Réadaptation Gingras-Lindsay (IRGLM)
  • Kathy Malas – remote speech therapy – Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Ste-Justine (CHU)

The different presentations demonstrated the need to develop and adopt new operating models to reduce costs while improving the healthcare system’s performance and patient satisfaction. The key message was that virtual medicine can act as a catalyst for a patient-centred transformation of healthcare.
